Our History...
For over a decade, Hyperion Public was more than just a bar—it was a second home.
The staff knew our regulars' names, jobs, families, and dreams. We celebrated together. We cried together. We cared about one another. Whether you were stopping in for one drink after work, watching the game with friends, celebrating a birthday, or just looking for a place to belong, Hyperion was there.
When the business closed in January 2024, it felt like something important had been taken away from the neighborhood.
Like many small businesses, Hyperion was hit by a perfect storm. The aftereffects of the Covid pandemic, the entertainment strikes, rising costs, and internal ownership issues all contributed to its eventual closure.
For a while, it seemed like that was the end of the story.
But just a few years later, the workers and the community have made one thing very clear:
We want our home back.
We want our regulars. We want our customers. We want the laughter, the banter, the friendships, and the sense of community that made Hyperion special in the first place.
And that's exactly what we're planning to build.
This time, however, we're doing it differently.
Under a worker-owned cooperative model, the people pouring the drinks, cooking the food, organizing the events, and opening the doors each day will also be the owners. The people doing the work will share in the success of the business.
But our vision goes beyond simply reopening a bar.
We want Hyperion Public to be a force for good in the community. We'll prioritize working with local farms, cooperative producers, breweries, distilleries, wineries, and other community-focused businesses whenever possible. We'll dedicate a portion of our profits to local causes, including early childhood education, homelessness outreach, and debt prevention programs.
Most importantly, we're dedicating ourselves to creating a place where everyone feels welcome.
A place to celebrate together. A place to grieve together. A place to laugh together. A place to love one another.
Just like before—but this time with the community at the center of everything we do.
